This is one of those purchases I made several years ago while walking by a kitchen store in the mall. Absolutely impulsive and at that time I thought I would use it to slice cucumbers really thin for my sandwiches. Little did I know that this magical kitchen tool will be used frequently to thinly slice not just cucumbers, but radishes, cheese, shallots and more.
The mini mandoline comes with two blades, but the slicer is the one I use. The julienne blade is not that great and doesn’t really serve its purpose unless you want to thinly shred garlic cloves etc.
My top ten list for using (and loving) the mini mandoline:
- Thinly slicing radishes for topping my grain bowls and rice.
- Slicing onions and shallots for pickling and as toppings on pizzas.
- Sliced cheese for pizza. The one in the picture is thinly sliced frozen mozzarella.
- For slicing any soft squash, i.e. zucchini, yellow squash etc.
- The thinnest shredded brussel sprouts ever. The brussel sprouts are so thin, that they can be eaten raw in a salad with a light dressing. (recipe coming soon).
- Perfectly sliced cucumbers for my avocado toast and hummus sandwiches.
- Sometimes to slice ginger for my chai/tea.
- Maybe slice garlic for a pasta sauce.
- Slicing carrots for my salads.
- It is a functional multi tasker and a super cute kitchen tool (all of 4" long).
